Why it’s Important to Support American Farmers

From Food to Table — Ensuring Food Security, Sustainability, and Community Resilience

“PARIS, Feb 20 (Reuters) — Farmers are protesting across the European Union, saying they are facing rising costs and taxes, red tape, excessive environmental rules and competition from cheap food imports.

Demonstrations have been taking place for weeks in countries including France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Italy and Greece.”

“As we look back on year one of Joe Biden’s America, communities across the country are feeling the pangs of skyrocketing inflation, rising expenses, and dismal supply chain disruptions, largely due to reckless policies and bloated, unchecked spending in Washington.”

“Farm country has been hit particularly hard by the President’s unilateral actions in what can only be described as a war on agriculture.” House Committee on Agriculture

The war on farmers and agriculture in Europe is in full open conflict, and that same problem is heading to our shores as well. It’s being caused by the current administration and Congress causing inflation, massively higher prices, ruining supply chains and their push for emissions and carbon taxes.

From the White House in April 20, 2023: Today, President Biden will convene leaders of the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate (MEF) for the fourth time since taking office to galvanize efforts needed to tackle the climate crisis and keep a 1.5°C limit on warming within reach.

This “Climate Crisis” is how the left always tries to control industries and raise taxes and fees. Biden’s push for “long-term buy-in for green farming” is another step towards villainizing farmers over a problem that doesn’t exist in order to scare the public and Congress into raising taxes and spending more of American tax dollars on green initiatives, while throwing farmers under the bus.

And truck drivers and the trucking industry are also in Biden’s crosshairs and are negatively being affected as well. (but that’s for the next post)

Garrett Downs on Politico wrote, “Robert Bonnie, the Agriculture Department official who came up with the plan, acknowledges that it’s essentially a giant science experiment. But he insists it’s necessary to try to incentivize the industry to reduce its massive carbon footprint, which amounts to roughly 10 percent of the country’s emissions.”

No one has proven that a carbon problem actually even exists, but it’s a way to make grand claims with little to no proof, and campaign on green initiatives while avoiding conversations and decisions about crime, the economy, rising prices, the open border, and massive international conflict heading our way.

There’s no denying that in the heart of America’s countryside lies the lifeblood of our nation — agriculture — Farmers. From the golden wheat fields of Kansas to the sprawling dairy farms of Wisconsin, American agriculture sustains not only our bodies but also our values and traditions and the nation’s economy.

Given the current divisive and destructive political environment, it’s crucial that we step up and support local farmers, ranchers, and food producers. It’s not just a choice but an important investment in our nation’s future.

The Backbone of America’s Values

American agriculture is more than just a means of sustenance; it’s a testament to our values of hard work, innovation, and resilience. Each seed sown and each crop harvested represents the indomitable spirit of the American farmer, who toils under the sun to feed our families and fuel our economy.

Example: Consider the story of the Smith family, who have been farming the same land for generations. Despite facing numerous challenges — from unpredictable weather patterns to fluctuating market prices to the political forces working against them— they remain steadfast in their commitment to providing quality produce to their community. Their dedication showcases the timeless values that have defined American agriculture for centuries. And there are countless others just like this.

Supporting Local Farmers: A Win-Win Proposition

When you choose to buy American-grown products, you’re not just making a purchase; you’re making a statement. By supporting local farmers and ranchers, you’re investing in your community’s prosperity and preserving the fabric of rural life.

Here are some compelling reasons to buy local:

  1. Food Security: Buying from local producers reduces our reliance on foreign imports and ensures a stable food supply, especially in times of crisis.
  2. Sustainability: Local farmers prioritize sustainable practices that protect the environment and promote biodiversity. By choosing their products, you’re supporting a greener, healthier planet.
  3. Community Resilience: When you buy from local farmers, you’re keeping money circulating within your community, strengthening local economies, and fostering a sense of solidarity.

Example: In the aftermath of a natural disaster, such as a hurricane or flood, communities that support local agriculture are better equipped to bounce back. Instead of relying on distant suppliers that may or may not help in time, they can rely on their local farmers to provide essential goods and services, building resilience and recovery.

Preserving Rural Communities for Generations to Come

American agriculture is not just about producing food; it’s about nurturing vibrant, thriving communities. When you choose to buy American-grown products, you’re helping to preserve the legacy of rural life for future generations.

Example: Take the case of John Deere, a company whose green tractors have become synonymous with American agriculture. Through decades of commitment to quality and innovation, John Deere has built timeless loyalty among farmers, ensuring that their equipment remains a staple on farms across the nation.

Their story is a testament to the enduring bond between American farmers and the companies that support them.

The Threat of Conflict:

In an increasingly uncertain world, the importance of maintaining a robust farming industry cannot be overstated, especially when considering the looming specter of war.

Relying solely on foreign aid and supplies leaves us vulnerable, with our fate at the mercy of geopolitical tensions and shifting alliances. By nurturing and investing in our farming industry, we safeguard our nation’s sovereignty and resilience in times of crisis.

With vast expanses of fertile farmland at our disposal, it would be folly not to capitalize on this invaluable resource. Our agricultural heritage is not just a part of our past; it’s a lifeline for our future security and prosperity.

So to wrap up, supporting American agriculture is not just a matter of convenience; it’s a moral imperative. By choosing to buy local, we uphold the values that have shaped our nation and ensure a brighter future for generations to come.
