Stand back, there’s a new Sheriff in town, and its name is Online Content. Okay, anyone remember the old cowboy movies? So maybe that was a bit dramatic because there’s no new Sheriff in town, and online content isn’t that new. But in the world of business and marketing, it is new. And a lot of people, business owners, and entrepreneurs still don’t quite understand it, or they don’t understand the point of it.
I still get asked all the time, “what’s the point of creating online content?” And it’s a fair question. Why would a business owner, whether for a big or small business, spend any time whatsoever on writing blog posts, creating videos, writing books? Why, when they’re all so busy with, you know, work and business, should they spend a second of their time creating brochures, white papers, about us pages, free downloads or free how-to information?
Well, I’ll tell ya. The short answer is: to establish yourself as the industry authority. You’re the guy (or gal) who knows what you’re doing. You’re the professional that people can trust with their business because you obviously know what you’re doing. If you didn’t know what you’re doing, then you couldn’t produce all this information for customers and future customers to go through.
If I am a potential customer looking for information ONLINE, before I buy and your website has all the how-to guides, all the product info, all the industry background I need to know before I buy, if you have a book on your site that you wrote about your industry, then I’ll do most of my research on your website before I buy.
And if I do other online research and it keeps leading back to your website, then my natural conclusion is that you’re the top in your field. You’re the one leading the industry and you’re the one I should buy from. Then guess what? When I’m ready to buy, who do you think I’ll trust to buy from? Yup, you guessed it, from you.
So in today’s digital age, building trust is done by creating online content. And of course, the old fashioned ways still work too, like being an honest business person, selling good and fair products and services and the like.
And as I’m sure you already know, building trust with audiences is essential for businesses, entrepreneurs and individuals alike. Online content plays a crucial role in this process, serving as a channel to showcase your expertise, establish authority, and build meaningful connections with target audiences.
Have a look at how creating consistent, high-quality content can position you and your business as trusted authority in your respective fields.
Online content serves as a platform for people and businesses to showcase their expertise and knowledge in a particular field. Whether through blog posts, videos, white papers, or e-books, creating informative and insightful content demonstrates depth of understanding and competence, instilling confidence in potential customers and clients.
Consistently producing valuable content helps build credibility and reputation over time. By addressing common pain points, answering frequently asked questions, and offering practical solutions, businesses establish themselves as reliable sources of information and trusted advisors within their industries.
Effective content creation is not just about disseminating information — it’s about fostering meaningful connections with target audiences. By addressing their needs, concerns, and interests, businesses can engage with their audience on a personal level, building rapport and trust that translates into long-term loyalty and advocacy.
From blog posts and videos to e-books and webinars, online content comes in various formats, each offering unique opportunities to engage with audiences and showcase expertise.
Blogging is a popular and effective way to share knowledge, insights, and updates with audiences. By consistently publishing blog posts on relevant topics, businesses can demonstrate their industry knowledge, attract organic traffic to their website, and establish themselves as thought leaders within their niche. Create how-to articles, industry background info, product or services posts, free tips and advice, what to look for when buying (insert your product or service here), and more.
Video content has become increasingly popular in recent years, offering a dynamic and engaging way to convey information. Whether through tutorials, interviews, or product demonstrations, videos allow businesses to connect with audiences on a more personal level, building trust and credibility through visual storytelling. And this is a great marketing tool for ANY business in and industry.
E-books and white papers are valuable resources that provide in-depth information on specific topics or issues. By offering these downloadable assets, businesses can position themselves as authorities in their field, attracting leads and nurturing prospects through valuable content offerings.
Beyond establishing authority and expertise, online content also serves as a powerful tool for driving traffic and engagement to businesses’ websites and online platforms.
In an increasingly competitive marketplace, on and offline, building trust with audiences is a big deal for business success. Online content serves as a powerful tool for establishing authority, showcasing expertise, and building meaningful connections with target audiences.
By consistently delivering valuable and informative content, businesses can position themselves as trusted advisors and industry leaders, driving engagement, loyalty, and ultimately, growth.
As we continue to navigate the evolving landscape of digital marketing, the importance of authentic, high-quality content cannot be overstated. By prioritizing content creation and investing in strategies that prioritize trust and credibility, businesses can forge strong and lasting relationships with their audience, ensuring long-term success and sustainability.
